The best Tanzania safari and beach packages put the safari first and the beach last, so you finish the trip resting on Zanzibar instead of recovering from the early game drives. Plan 6 to 10 days of safari and 4 to 6 nights on the coast. Choose the classic northern circuit for a first trip, the Ndutu route for calving season, the southern circuit for quiet and luxury, and a family itinerary if you travel with children.
The hard part is that most listings sell a fixed bundle. A package that looks cheap often leaves out internal flights, park fees or the beach hotel. Passionate Guides Tanzania is a founder-led operator in Arusha that has run private guided safaris since 2020, and our founder has guided in Tanzania since 2012. The four itineraries below are safaris we run. Each pairs well with a Zanzibar stay, which you add as the beach half.
You will see how each combination is laid out day by day, who it suits, and what to check before you commit. A final section covers what the whole trip costs and which questions to put to any operator.
1. 7-day classic safari plus Zanzibar
The 7-Day Tanzania Classic Safari followed by 4 to 5 beach nights is the safest first pairing. It is the version of Tanzania safari and beach packages that most first-time visitors should price first.

Route and day split
This is a private guided route from Arusha through Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, four parks in total. You stay in midrange or luxury lodges, or luxury tented camps. The trip starts and ends in Arusha, so you fly to Zanzibar the next morning.
- Days 1 to 7: Tarangire, Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with a private guide.
- Day 8: short flight from Arusha to Zanzibar.
- Days 8 to 12: four nights on the coast. Pick Nungwi or Kendwa in the north if you want to swim at any tide. The east coast beaches around Paje and Jambiani lose much of their water at low tide.
Finish with the beach, never start with it, because a safari needs early mornings and a beach needs none.
Who it suits and budget
This trip suits first-time visitors and couples who want the famous names in one week: elephants in Tarangire, the Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro Crater floor. It also works for friends traveling as a pair of couples, since the guide and vehicle are private.
The safari price covers park fees for non-residents, the guide, ground transport, taxes and a roundtrip airport transfer. The beach hotel and the Zanzibar flight are separate costs. Ask at enquiry how the beach stay would be sequenced. Totals for this style are in the cost table in section 5.
2. Ndutu migration safari plus Zanzibar
The 8 Days Southern Serengeti Migration Safari suits travelers who want the calving herds and then a beach in the same warm, dry weeks. February is the month the itinerary is built around.

Route and day split
This private route covers Tarangire, the Serengeti, Lake Ndutu, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. February is the best time to witness the calving on the southern Serengeti plains, when newborn calves draw lions, hyenas and cheetahs close to the vehicle.
- Days 1 to 8: Ndutu-focused safari with a private guide.
- Day 9: fly to Zanzibar.
- Days 9 to 13: four nights on the coast. Zanzibar is hot and mostly dry in February, and the sea is warm.
Calving season and Zanzibar's dry weeks overlap, which makes February the strongest month for this pairing.
Who it suits and budget
It suits wildlife photographers and repeat safari travelers who care more about behavior than ticking off animals. It also suits anyone who has already seen a classic northern circuit and wants something specific.
Expect to pay more than in a quiet month, because demand for Ndutu lodges is highest during calving. Book several months ahead, since the best camps fill first. Zanzibar's heavy rains usually begin in March, so a late calving trip can end in a wet beach week.
3. Southern circuit safari plus Zanzibar
The 7 Days Tanzania Southern Circuit is the quiet, luxury answer for travelers who want a safari with few other vehicles and a beach finish. It skips the northern parks and the Great Migration entirely.

Route and day split
This private luxury tented safari covers Nyerere (Selous) and Ruaha National Parks with fly-in transfers. You spend three nights in Selous at Selous Siwandu Camp and three nights exploring Ruaha. Game drives, walking safaris and river safaris are the draw.
- Nights 1 to 3: Selous, with boat trips as well as drives.
- Nights 4 to 6: Ruaha, known for open, dry country.
- After Ruaha: a flight to the coast. Connections usually run through Dar es Salaam, then on to Zanzibar.
Fly-in safaris trade driving time for flight costs, so always confirm which flights your quote covers.
Who it suits and budget
It suits honeymooners, romantics and repeat visitors who want privacy more than a long animal list. Walking safaris and river safaris give a different feel from northern circuit drives.
Budget as a luxury trip. The flights between camps add to the cost, and the Zanzibar leg adds one more connection. Ask your operator for a written list of every flight in the price.
4. Family safari plus Zanzibar
The 9 Days Family Safari in Tanzania pairs well with a family-friendly beach because it is paced for children. If you want Tanzania beach and safari packages that suit kids, this is the pairing to price.
Route and day split
This nine-day private trip crosses the northern circuit: Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Lake Eyasi, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers flexible pacing and handpicked lodges and camps, so you can shorten a drive day when children tire.
- Days 1 to 9: northern circuit with a private guide, including Lake Eyasi.
- Day 10: fly to Zanzibar.
- Days 10 to 15: five nights on the coast. Choose a resort with a shallow, calm beach and a pool.
Children need a slower safari and a longer beach, so shift the balance toward the coast.
Who it suits and budget
It suits families with school-age children who want wildlife without long, rigid days. Check each lodge's age rules before booking, since policies differ from camp to camp.
This is the longest trip here, about 14 nights with the beach. Child rates for rooms and meals usually apply at the beach, so ask for them in writing. Our safari price covers park fees, the guide, ground transport and airport transfers.
What a combined package costs and what to check
A realistic combined trip for two adults costs roughly $4,450 to $6,850 per person at mid-range and $9,200 to $15,350 at luxury, before international flights. These are planning estimates for a private 7-day safari plus five beach nights. They are not quotes.
Typical budget by style
| Component (per person, sharing) | Mid-range | Luxury |
|---|---|---|
| 7-day private safari | $3,500 to $5,000 | $7,000 to $11,000 |
| 5 nights on Zanzibar | $750 to $1,500 | $2,000 to $4,000 |
| Arusha to Zanzibar flight | $200 to $350 | $200 to $350 |
| Total | $4,450 to $6,850 | $9,200 to $15,350 |
As a worked example, take a mid-range couple. Say the safari is $4,200 per person, five beach nights at $200 are $1,000, and the flight is $250. That is $5,450 per person, or $10,900 for two.
Price the safari and the beach separately, because they move independently with season and lodge level.
What to check in any quote
Before you pay anyone, confirm these points in writing:
- Whether park fees, taxes and airport transfers are inside the safari price.
- Which internal flights are included, especially the Zanzibar leg.
- The beach hotel's meal plan and transfer cost.
- Insurance. Our bookings require comprehensive travel insurance, and our safaris include AMREF Flying Doctors evacuation.
- Payment terms. We ask for a 30% deposit within 14 days of the invoice and the balance 21 days before arrival.
We do not book your international flights, so budget for them separately.
When to go
Safari runs best in the dry months, late June to October and January to February. Zanzibar is also pleasant then. The heavy rains on the coast usually arrive from March to May, and short rains can return around November.
Match your month to the safari. Choose February for calving around Ndutu, or July to October for the Serengeti's northern migration and Mara River crossings. Plan the coast to follow the safari.
Picking your safari and beach combination
Start with the safari that fits your reasons for coming. Choose the classic circuit for a first trip, Ndutu for February calving, the southern circuit for quiet luxury, or the family route for slower days. Then add four to six beach nights on Zanzibar, and price the whole trip with every flight and fee written down.
